It began with the R1 ... the first wideband receiver to fit in your pocket. The R2 and R5 offered further refinements, bringing us to the fourth generation R6. Like its predecessors, the R6 is big on coverage, tuning from 100 kHz to 1309.995 MHz (less cellular and gaps) in these modes: AM, FM Narrow and FM wide. The triple conversion circuit provides amazing sensitivity for the size. It has 1300 alphanumeric memories storing: frequency, mode, step size, duplex direction and offset, CTCSS tone, tone squelch and skip settings. And scanning is really fast ... up to 100 channels per second! Seven different scan formats are available. It features a large backlit LCD display. Enjoy 150 mW of audio output power (50 mW with external speaker (not supplied)). There is a mini 3 conductor earphone jack.
The controls are easy to operate. The very efficient circuit design offers extended battery operation. This radio comes with a wrist strap, belt clip and SMA flexible antenna. See QST November 2010 for a review of this radio. (The original IC-R6-16 #1006 included two NiMH AA batteries and BC-196SA charger, but Icom has discontinued this configuration).
The IC-R6-16 Sport BLK #2006 is the current version of this radio with a dark gray case. It does not include the two NiMH AA batteries and BC-196SA charger that were included with the original version. They are available optionally below.
