New Eton Grundig “Executive” Portables
Eton Grundig has released two upgraded “Worldband” portable receivers. The new Grundig Executive Satellit and Grundig Executive Traveler now include a luxurious wrap-around case that protects the radio when traveling and also serves as a tilt stand. Another addition to both of these new models is the “double jointed” telescopic antenna for improved placement. Now shipping. [Feb 02]
New Sangean Digital HD Radios
Sangean has three new radios for listening to the exciting over the air AM/FM Digital HD broadcasts. This technology will give dramatically improved fidelity and provide additional programming that is only listenable with an HD Radio. Enjoy additional music formats, sports, talk programs without any subscription fees. The HDR-16 is a portable model that can be operated on four C batteries or with it's included AC adapter. Dual speakers and a powerful 3.5 watts per channel with separate Bass and Treble controls provides excellent sound. Table model HDR-18 features a powerful 7 watt amplifier (also with separate Bass and Treble controls) and includes a remote control. The HDT-20 is simply a "tuner". It would be connected to the "Aux Input" of your existing "stereo receiver" for full fidelity. (It does not have it's own audio amplifier). Whistler TRX-1 / TRX-2 Scanner Firmware Update for NXDN™
The Whistler TRX-1 (handheld) and TRX-2 (desktop/mobile) were released in May 2016 and it was announced during the initial product debut, that development of NXDN monitoring was underway and owners would receive the NXDN™ upgrade later this year. NXDN™ is a digital protocol for mobile communications developed jointly by Icom Incorporated and JVC Kenwood Corporation. This update is available at no charge for these Whistler scanner models. "World Radio TV Handbook" 2017 Edition
The 71st edition of "The Directory Of Global Broadcasting" is now available. The 2017 "World Radio TV Handbook" is the definitive source of broadcast radio information. It's 672 pages contains country-by-country listings of services and broadcasters including television. DX clubs and internet resources and much more. A number of radio reviews are also featured, this year includes the Icom IC-7300, Reuter Elektronik RDR55D, SDRPlay RSP, Wellbrook ALA1530LNP, and Bonito AAS300. Tokyo Ham Fair August 19, 2016.
A number of major new radio models were announced at the JARL Tokyo Ham Fair on August 19. The Icom ID-51A PLUS 2 D-Star handheld transceive adds two new D-Star modes. Icom debuted two new wideband receivers. The new Icom IC-R8600 desktop receiver is in the same form-factor as the IC-7300 HF transceiver and will also be SDR based. Coverage is 0.01 to 3000 MHz. The new Icom IC-R30 handheld receiver will feature similar frequency coverage (TBA). Both will be capable of “Phase 1” P25 digital plus additional digital modes. Icom also announced the new IC-7610 HF Transceiver. Dual receive and a larger touch screen display were noted and is in the same size cabinet as the current IC-7600. More details are TBA. Also a new matching external speaker called the SP-39AD was shown with the IC-R8600. (The above items have not been FCC approved yet). Yaesu officially announced the improved FT-991A HF/VHF/UHF transceiver. A color waterfall and a real time spectrum scope have been added. Availability is scheduled for late September 2016 and are accepting orders now. Kenwood officially announced the new and very exciting TH-D74A Tri-Band HT with D-Star. Yaesu FT-891 HF Transceiver.
The compact FT-891 HF transceiver was first shown at the 2016 Dayton Hamvention. Transmit amateur coverage is from 160 thru 6 meters. It’s triple conversion receiver covers 30 kHz to 56 MHz. Power output is 100 watts with dual temperature controlled internal fans and features include a detachable front panel, 32 bit IF DSP and a stock ±0.5 PPM TCXO. A custom made FC-50 external antenna tuner is available (optional), and fits neatly under the set. [Aug 04]
Sangean HDR-18 HD Radio™
The new Sangean HDR-18 tabletop radio is capable receiving high quality stellar digital HD Radio™ on the AM (Medium Wave) and FM broadcasting bands and excellent audio quality on standard AM and FM stations. Features a powerful 7 watt mono amplifier with Bass, Treble and a loudness adjustments. Stereo FM with headphones and a rear mounted fixed level “line output” jack for tape recorder or external amplifier. TYT Mobile Transceivers
Three new TYT mobile transceivers are now available at Universal and all at a great value. The TYT TH9000D VHF FM mobile transceiver covers 136 to 174 MHz and delivers 60, 25 or 10 watts of RF output. TYT TH9000D 220 FM mobile transceiver covers 200 to 260 MHz. Transmitter delivers 50, 25 or 10 watts of output. Mounting bracket, hand mic, DC power cord and manual are provided with either model. The TYT TH9800+ “Quad band” transceiver covers: 10 meters, 6 meters, 2 meters and 70 cm. 800 standard memories, 5 pairs of band-edge memories, 6 home channels and 6 hyper-memory channels. Independent Band controls. RF power is 50 watts on VHF and 40 watts on UHF. Supplied with mobile mounting bracket, DC power cord, handheld DTMF mic, a 14.8 foot control head separation cable and printed manual. [Jun 09]
Whistler Launching DMR Capable Scanners
Whistler has announced two new scanners, the TRX-1 (handheld) and TRX-2 (desktop/mobile). Digital modes feature P25 Phase I, X2-TDMA, Phase II and DMR which covers: Conventional DMR, Hytera XPT, MotoTRBO™ Capacity Plus, MotoTRBO™ Connect Plus, MotoTRBO™ Linked Cap Plus systems. If that was not enough excitement, Whistler is in development of NXDN mode and the TRX-1 and TRX-2 will include NXDN as a FREE upgrade when available. Whistler will also be offering a DMR update at NO CHARGE to customers owning models WS1080, WS1088, WS1095, and WS1098. This upgrade is scheduled to be available via the EZ Scan pc app in late May. Alinco DR-735T Transceiver FCC Cleared
The long awaited Alinco DR-735T 144/440 MHz dual band mobile transceiver was FCC cleared on April 12. Features include a oversize LCD display, removable head, RGB backlighting, support for crossband repeater operation. There are separate volume, squelch and tuning knobs for each band. RF output power selectable for 50, 20 or 5 watts. Supplied with EMS-57 backlit DTMF microphone and mobile mounting bracket. Pricing and availability will follow shortly. [Apr 15]
TYT “DMR” Digital Handheld Transceivers
TYT’s exciting DMR-380 VHF and DMR-380 UHF handheld transceivers feature the latest TDMA technology at a very affordable price. They can also operate in traditional analog FM mode as well (12.5 or 25 kHz). Backlit color screen with voice prompts and channel name setting. 1 or 5 watts selectable RF power output. The “MD-380 VHF” model coverage is 136 – 174 MHz and the “MD-380 UHF” model 400 – 480 MHz. Yaesu FTM-3200DR VHF Fusion Mobile.
Yaesu’s new FTM-3200DR VHF mobile with “System Fusion” Digital at a very attractive price. Power output is selectable at 5, 30 or 65 watts and includes a built-in cooling fan. AMS (Automatic Mode Select) instantly recognizes whether a transmission is digital or analog, and appropriately switches the operating mode to allow flawless co-existence of both digital and analog users. Icom IC-7300 SDR HF Transceiver FCC Cleared.
The forthcoming Icom IC-7300 was “officially” FCC cleared on February 24th. This exciting HF+6 meter transceiver features a direct sampling receiver, TFT Touch screen with real time spectrum display and waterfall, built-in antenna tuner, SD card slot, voice memory, 15 band pass filters, CW/RTTY memory keyer functions and much more. Whistler WS1088 and WS1098 Scanners Now Shipping
Whistler’s new WS1088 handheld and WS1098 base/desktop scanners are now shipping. Both feature a full numeric keypad for easy frequency “on the fly” entry while retaining the all of features of the WS1080 and WS1095 models. [Dec 15]
Uniden offers EDACS ProVoice upgrade to BCD436HP and BCD536HP Scanners
Uniden now offers an optional firmware download to allow owners of their flagship BCD436HP and BCD536HP scanners to scan and monitor EDACS Pro Voice trunked radio systems. The EDACS ProVoice systems are currently used in several major market areas in North America. The cost of this update is $50.00. New ARRL Publications
Two new ARRL publications are now available. New Yaesu FTDX-1200 and FTDX-3000 Waterfall Display
Yaesu has updated the firmware in the FTDX1200 and FTDX3000 HF transceivers to include a waterfall display. This added feature gives the user the ability to view all the spectrum information at a glance, providing the data needed to place the operator in the correct spot on the band. In the case of the FTDX3000, it’s simply downloading the instructions and update file from the Yaesu web site as it has a USB socket as stock. With the FTDX1200 the update process also requires the optional SCU-17 USB interface unit. Radios produced or upgraded as of 07/15/15 feature this impressive and powerful feature out of the box.
